Consignment & Sales

Got some cool stuff that matches our vibes? Consign, sell, or auction it with Dirty Work Vintage!

Option #1

Consignment:

Limited items accepted

We currently offer one of the best consignment rates around for consignors who wish to be compensated with store credit – for any items accepted on consignment, we split the sale price 40/60. Meaning, we keep 40% of the sale price, and you receive 60% of the sale price, available to you in store credit. For consignors wishing to be compensated monetarily, we split the sale price 60/40, meaning we keep 60% of the sales price, and you receive 40% of the sale price.

We only accept very limited consignment of high quality garments, accessories, small furniture, and housewares, in good-to-excellent vintage condition. Generally, for consignment, we look for rare, collectible, and all-around interesting items such as:

  • Mid-Century, antique, or higher end household and small furniture
  • Vintage barware and kitchenware
  • Vintage holiday decorations
  • Mourning Jewelry, and other Victoriana
  • Music memorabilia including band t-shirts
  • Bathing suits, lingerie, and sleepwear from the 1970s and earlier
  • Neon and vintage advertising signs and displays
  • Psychedelia
  • Vintage western clothing and quality leather cowboy/cowgirl boots
  • Oddities, vintage medical
  • Leather and fur items
  • Tarot Cards, Witchy Books
  • Plus size clothing
  • Handbags and smaller accessories/jewelry
  • Menswear (no business suits or blazers, unless true vintage)
  • Clothing and shoes that well-represent their era – mainly 1970s and earlier.
  • We also accept in-season newer clothes and shoes (better brands, designer) in excellent-to-new condition. We cannot accept fast fashion or box store brands on consignment – no Target, Walmart, Kohls, Old Navy, etc. (We may bend the rules on this for cute plus size clothes, as we are trying to increase our stock).

So how do I consign my stuff with you?

  1. Make an appointment for drop-off.

  2. Wash all items and place in a plastic storage tote (preferred), sealed cardboard box, or a tied kitchen garbage bag. We cannot accept drop-off consignment items in bags or boxes that do not close (nothing loose, no open-top reusable shopping bags, etc).

  3. Clearly mark the exterior of the tote, box, or bag "Consignment."

  4. Include a piece of paper in the tote/box/bag with the following information: Your Name, Phone Number, Email Address.

  5. Drop off at the store at the start of your appointment time. We can accept one tote (or equivalent-sized cardboard box/kitchen garbage bag) at a time for drop-off. Someone from the store will be available to meet with you to go over any questions you have.

  6. Within the next couple of days, we will email you a contract for the items we are accepting on consignment. You may sign and return electronically, or return to sign in-store. Your contract will be available to sign with the front desk during business hours after we email you. (Alternatively, you may sign a blank contract in advance and we will fill in the details of what we are accepting on consignment after we go through your items. This option is probably best for those who have previously consigned with DWV, or for those who want to speed through the transaction as quickly as possible).

  7. Any items that we are unable to take on consignment will either be returned to you, or you may choose to exchange them with us for $15 in store credit (see below). Your choice.
  8. When your consigned items sell, you will be receiving 60% of the sold price in store credit, or 40% of the sold price payable via check or direct deposit, depending on which option you choose. Payments and store credits are issued on approximately the 1st of each month.

Drop-off sounds good, but what if I want to talk with someone in-person to discuss consignment of larger items, or higher monetary value items, or any other services offered by the store?

Please schedule a 30-minute appointment for either a phone call or an in-person discussion with a consignment manager.

We cannot accommodate walk-ins.

But what if my stuff doesn’t meet the criteria for consignment?

We got you...

Option #2:

Exchange a Thrift Bag for $15 Store Credit

During store hours, simply bring a bin, box, or bag of CLEAN clothes and items (minimum 8 pieces, please) and we will issue you a credit on the spot for $15 – no waiting, and no appointment needed. (Max once per customer per week). You can use your $15 credit the same day, OR we will add your $15 to our store credit system (it will be available to you the next time you come in to shop).

Credits can be saved and combined (so we can add another $15 to your gift certificate balance the next time you drop off).

For this option, clothes may be out of season, any brands, and any styles. However, no leggings, undies, or anything stained, ripped, or threadbare.

Thrift items exchanged for $15 store credit become the property of Dirty Work Vintage, and we may resell, upcycle, or donate them at our discretion. They cannot be returned once exchanged for $15 store credit.

Sorry to be jerks, but failure to follow these guidelines will make you ineligible to consign or sell with us in the future. Bins/bags that contain dirty items, underwear, or anything else gross will be removed and will be considered trash/forfeited.

But what should I do with clothes that aren’t in a condition to be sold?

Option #3:

Fabric Upcycling

Stained, ripped, or threadbare clothes may be dropped off in our in-store textile upcycling bin any time! (No undies, and clothes must be clean). Join us on Tuesdays from 6-8pm for Tuesday Night Upcycle! (Call the store to make sure it's on that week).

What if I have a LOT of stuff to deal with?

Option #4:

Individually Tailored Clean-Outs

We get it. Perhaps a loved one has passed away, or you have experienced hardship, or you're moving and need to reduce a large accumulation of stuff. We understand! We specialize in compassionate and worry-free clean-outs, and we can organize and tailor a large pickup to your individual needs. We are also equipped for occasional bulk estate purchases, and we can handle most salvage opportunities. We have worked with real estate agents, property managers, contractors, movers, and individual families. To discuss, please make an appointment for a preliminary phone call or in person-meeting.

We will follow up with an on-site visit, and an individually tailored scope of services, if requested.

Ok, last question. I heard you periodically organize an Auction Ninja auction. What’s that all about?

Option #5:

Auctions

First, check out the local online auction website, AuctionNinja.com. Many items listed consistently fetch high prices.

For a multi-consignor auction, we may be able to pick up your accepted items, including furniture pieces (or you can drop them off, if accepted). We will stage, measure, describe, photograph, and store your items securely leading up to the auction. We will also handle marketing and promotion of the auction, online and in-store. Buyers guarantee bids with a credit card, and we handle auction pickups for winning bids. That means no back-and-forth emails with no-show buyers, or strangers from Facebook Marketplace coming to your home. We also offer shipping for smaller items nationwide. Best of all, you receive 100% of the final gavel price! Dirty Work Vintage receives only a buyer’s premium – an additional fee that is calculated as a percentage of the sales price and is paid directly by the purchaser.

Auctions may be multi-consignor, or single estate. If you are interested in including items in our next multi-consignor auction, please email us (with pictures) for more information. If you would like to privately arrange a single estate auction, please make an appointment to discuss!
