So what are Swedish Dishcloths anyway?
A Swedish dishcloth is a reusable, super-absorbent cleaning cloth made from a blend of cellulose (wood pulp) and cotton. It looks thin and stiff when dry, but once you wet it, it becomes soft, flexible, and surprisingly durable.
It’s basically the love child of a paper towel + sponge + rag — but reusable and compostable.
What Makes It Different?
Material:
Usually about 70% cellulose + 30% cotton
Texture:
-
Dry → firm, almost like cardboard
-
Wet → soft, sponge-like
Absorbency:
Can absorb up to 15–20 times its weight in water
What It’s Used For
-
Washing dishes
-
Wiping counters
-
Cleaning spills
-
Polishing surfaces
-

-
Even light scrubbing
You can use it just like a sponge or paper towel — but you rinse and reuse it instead of throwing it away.

You're probably wondering why our vintage shop is carrying them, right?
Well, for one, they fit beautifully into eco-conscious retail, and we're trying to get the message across that vintage is THE MOST eco-conscious kind of retail. Our store's entire philosophy centers around reuse, reuse, reuse...and having other products that promote sustainability only makes sense. Oh, and two, they are seriously stinkin' cute, and make cleaning up only half as awful as it usually is. :)
Currently, we are carrying a full line-up of designs from Ecologie. We have been using them at home, and we can assure you that they are seriously long lasting, they wash well in the top rack of the dishwasher or washing machine, and we have almost eliminated the use of paper towels in our homes. That's not just good for the earth -- at just $6.50 each, they are also saving us a lot of money on paper towels.
Here are some of the delightful designs we currently have, but these are always changing as we restock!
